From January 27, 2021, the fun exhibition I LOVE LEGO arrives at PALP Palazzo Pretorio in Pontedera.
With over 1,000,000 interlocking bricks, in a kaleidoscope of colors and constructions that captivate both children and adults, the exhibition showcases the incredible evolution of what, from being one of the most common and well-known toys, has transformed over the years into a true work of art.
Real architectural and engineering masterpieces, dozens of square meters of scenes entirely built with LEGO® bricks will compose modern cities and ancient monuments: from the ideal contemporary city to the legendary adventures of pirates, from medieval landscapes to the splendors of Ancient Rome, meticulously reconstructed and designed using the world’s most famous bricks.
I LOVE LEGO is an exhibition promoted by the Fondazione per la Cultura Pontedera in collaboration with the Municipality of Pontedera, PALP, and Arte Per Non Dormire. It is organized by Piuma in collaboration with Arthemisia and created using over 1,000,000 bricks. The exhibition is part of the project “Arte Per Non Dormire – Pontedera and Beyond 21st Century,” a broad contemporary art initiative directed by Alberto Bartalini.
Millions of bricks, but not only that. Among 7 fantastic dioramas built thanks to the collaboration of a group of passionate collectors, many new and unique installations at PALP make the exhibition one of a kind, demonstrating how simple bricks have – even if just for a moment – become part of everyone’s life and are capable of “creating art in 360°.”
One extraordinary example is the partnership with “Legolize”, a humorous page that creates comic installations using LEGO bricks. Founded by three young men – Mattia Marangon, Samuele Rovituso, and Pietro Alcaro – the page was launched in 2016 and currently has over half a million fans on Instagram and just as many on Facebook. Legolize will bring humor into the exhibition with special installations and by “invading” existing dioramas.
Additionally, scattered among the various installations, there will also be 17 oil paintings inspired by great masterpieces of art history, reinterpreted and transformed into “LEGO men” by contemporary artist Stefano Bolcato. By merging his passion for LEGO and his art – using an oil painting technique – he creates assembled compositions particularly inspired by the “magnetism” of Renaissance portraits.
Welcoming visitors in Piazza Curtatone e Montanara is “LEGO Head” by Marco Lodola. This luminous and striking artwork, which will remain permanently in Pontedera, was conceived by Alberto Bartalini as a natural connection to I LOVE LEGO.
The I LOVE LEGO exhibition is an unmissable opportunity for all enthusiasts, families, and children, who will have the chance to spend a magical and fun-filled day surrounded by the “extraordinary” bricks that bring joy to over 100 million people every year.
